Updated April 2026
Today, I am announcing my candidacy for Congress in Washington's 1st Congressional District. I have filed official candidacy paperwork with the Federal Election Commission. I am a Democrat challenging fellow Democrat Representative Suzan DelBene, who has held this seat for more than 12 years. State filing will be completed during Washington State's filing period of May 4 - 8, 2026.
Washington State ranks among the worst states in the nation for retirees largely due to the cost of living. But affordability is unlikely to be a personal concern for Representative DelBene. Like so many career politicians, her personal wealth has grown dramatically during her time in office. According to Quiver Quantitative, her net worth has more than doubled since she was first elected from $60 million to an estimated $141.5 million.
That may sound extraordinary, but it is not unusual. More than half of all members of Congress are millionaires. I am not criticizing anyone simply for being wealthy. The point is something larger and more troubling. Congress no longer reflects the American people. It does not resemble the government "of the people, by the people, for the people" that Abraham Lincoln envisioned. And in a world where mega corporations wield enormous money, power, and influence over our political system, we must remain vigilant. We must demand that our representatives are working for us not for corporate donors.
Many constituents in Washington's 1st District have expressed serious concern about the substantial donations Representative DelBene has received from corporate-affiliated political action committees. Compared to other Democrats in Congress, the volume of corporate money flowing to her campaign is significantly higher. That warrants scrutiny, and voters deserve honest answers.
So Why Run?
Why would I challenge a member of my own party? There are two reasons. One is Representative DelBene herself, and the other is the direction of the Democratic Party as a whole. Both have been wrong on key issues , issues that contributed directly to our party's devastating loss in the last election. That loss is why Donald Trump is president again.
If the Democratic Party does not change course, Vice President J.D. Vance could be our next president. We may survive another Trump term. A Vance presidency is a different matter entirely the damage could take generations to undo, if it can be undone at all.
As the saying goes those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The Democratic Party has not learned from its defeat. Instead, it has doubled down on the very positions that eroded the trust of everyday voters. That has to stop.
It is also worth remembering that Representative DelBene is not just any member of Congress. As Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee the organization responsible for developing the party's strategy to win House elections she bore direct institutional responsibility for the 2024 results. Under her leadership, Donald Trump became President again and Republicans won control of both chambers. The question every Democrat and independent voter in this district should be asking is simple. How is her strategy working out for you so far?
The Issue of Fairness in Women's Sports
One of the clearest examples of the party losing touch with ordinary Americans is its continued support for allowing biological males to compete in women's sports. The Democratic Party is wrong on this issue. Representative DelBene is wrong on this issue. Her vote against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act made that unmistakably clear.
Most Americans including most Democrats oppose allowing biological males to compete in women's athletic competitions. It is unfair. It defies common sense. And it is simply wrong. I have seen the courage of female athletes who have spoken out and refused to compete under these conditions. To the Democratic voters who know this is wrong but are afraid to say so publicly your silence must end. Fairness matters. Women matter.
This is not an attack on the LGBTQ+ community. Many members of that community feel exactly the same way. Tennis legend Martina Navratilova one of the greatest female athletes in history and a gay woman has been among the most outspoken critics of biological males competing in women's sports. The rights of one group should never require stripping away the rights of another. That is not progress. That is not equality.
This Is About More Than One Issue
This campaign is about far more than any single issue. It is about restoring trust in public institutions, protecting working families, strengthening public education, and holding both parties accountable to the people they were elected to serve. It is about proving that the Democratic Party can still stand for fairness, reason, and integrity.
I am not running to make a point. I am running to make a difference.
If you are ready to bring courage and clarity back to Congress if you are ready to help the Democratic Party find its way again then I invite you to stand with me.
Let's chart a new course.
Let's bring honesty back to politics.
Let's fight for a future we can all believe in.
Thank you.
DelBene's Record vs. Kincaid's Approach
The following is a brief overview of key differences between Representative DelBene's record and this campaign's positions. For the full detailed comparison, see the Suzan DelBene's Record in Congress — Facts, Votes, and the Alternative page.
| Issue | DelBene's Record | Kincaid's Position |
|---|---|---|
| Housing & Energy | Supported housing assistance programs but has not addressed the connection between homebuilding, energy efficiency, and the coming electricity demand surge from AI and EVs. | Federal investment in next-generation housing manufacturing (like Geoship), distributed energy (like Sirocco), and solar EVs (like Aptera) treating the housing, energy, and climate crises as one connected problem. |
| Tax Policy | Voted for Build Back Better tax increases on high earners but no direct relief for middle-class families in high-cost areas. | The Real Tax Reform and Simplification Act eliminate federal income tax and filing requirements for Americans earning $61,000 or less. |
| Healthcare | Supports ACA and a public option. No phased or pilot-based approach to expanding coverage. | The Universal Healthcare Innovation and Pilot Act a real world beta test before any national rollout. |
| Public Safety | Voted for background check expansions but has not targeted the stolen gun pipeline that fuels everyday street crime. | Federal Secure Storage Laws requiring certified lock boxes addressing the 200,000 firearms stolen every year that fuel street crime. |
| Women's Sports | Voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. Cosponsor of the Transgender Bill of Rights, which seeks to amend Title IX to allow biological males in women's sports. | Support legislation ensuring women's athletic competitions are limited to biological females. Fairness in sports is non negotiable. |
| Antisemitism | Voted against censuring Rep. Tlaib. No prominent public statement on the Nathan Hale High School antisemitic mob attack in Seattle. | Antisemitism is racism. Proposes a permanent White House Office to Combat Antisemitism with a Senate confirmed Director. Silence is not neutrality it is a choice. |
| Campaign Funding | Heavily funded by technology companies, real estate interests, and large corporate PACs more than most Democrats in Congress. | Focused exclusively on small dollar donations from individuals. Priorities stay aligned with working families not corporate donors. |

Why This District Deserves Better
Representative DelBene has been in Congress for over a decade. During that time, has daily life in this district gotten better or worse? Has crime, homelessness, or the drug crisis improved? Do you believe the Democratic Party has been heading in the right direction? Do you believe Suzan DelBene is truly representing the people of Washington's 1st District not just the donors writing the biggest checks?
If you believe this district needs fresh leadership, new ideas, and a representative who understands the financial pressures facing ordinary families, I invite you to read more about this campaign's platform.
This campaign will always put working families first not corporate donors, not party orthodoxy, and not the status quo. That is the promise. That is why I am running.
