Kincaid believes socialism is the wrong direction for the Democratic Party and for America. He says so plainly because too few Democrats will. The facts are public. A CNN poll released July 30 found about a third of Democrats and Democratic leaning adults now identify as democratic socialists. The Democratic Socialists of America reports its membership more than doubled since 2024. Democratic socialist candidates defeated sitting Democratic incumbents in primaries this cycle. This is a movement inside the party  not a fringe. The organization's published program speaks for itself. The DSA platform calls for defunding police as a step toward abolishing police and prisons.
